Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The tragic loss of actor-singer Prashant Tamang has sent ripples of grief across the nation.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, his long-time friend and fellow artist Meiyang Chang opened up about Prashant's excitement for his upcoming role in The Battle of Galwan, particularly his enthusiasm about collaborating with Salman Khan.
“His recent appearances in Paatal Lok Season 2 and the anticipated film with Salman were significant milestones in his career. Prashant was overjoyed and looking forward to this new chapter,” Meiyang shared.
They were scheduled to reunite in Mumbai for a long-awaited gathering with friends. “The news of his passing was a profound shock as we were all engrossed in our work and had plans to meet. Prashant had mentioned needing to return for dubbing work for Galwan. Our plans had been in discussion for quite some time, and we last met in November, hoping to catch up again in January, which sadly didn’t happen. The fact that he was filming with Salman Khan made the news even harder to comprehend,” Meiyang lamented.
“At only 43, he was far too young to leave us. We had a deep and meaningful friendship, filled with care and affection,” he added.
Having just returned from Prashant's funeral, Meiyang expressed his shock, saying, “We were in Darjeeling, surrounded by friends from our cohort, when we received the devastating news. It’s surreal.”
Meiyang expressed concern for Prashant's family, saying, “My thoughts are solely with his wife and daughter right now. They are very important to us, and we will do everything we can to support them.”
“This was truly not his time to go. It is an immense loss. What makes it even more heart-wrenching is that he was making a strong comeback to the mainstream. He had participated in Indian Idol two decades ago, worked on numerous shows, traveled extensively, and acted in Nepali films,” he continued.
Meiyang fondly remembered, “Not long ago, during the Paatal Lok audition process, he would ask me innocent questions about auditions and casting agents—simple, sweet inquiries that reflected his genuine character. He was kind, gentle, and respectful, treating everyone equally, irrespective of their status.”
Expressing pride in his late friend, Meiyang stated, “We were all incredibly proud of him. I truly believed he had a brilliant journey ahead in acting. Unfortunately, it ended too soon. I hope that when Galwan releases, audiences will recognize his talent once more.”
For those unfamiliar, Prashant Tamang, the winner of the third season of Indian Idol, tragically passed away at the age of 43, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest.
Meiyang Chang and Prashant Tamang were both contestants in the same season of Indian Idol.
