Bhopal, Feb 12 (NationPress) As the central BJP leadership prepares to appoint a new president for the Madhya Pradesh unit, senior party leader Narottam Mishra has asserted that he is not competing for the position.
This announcement followed a private meeting between Mishra and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at Mishra's home in Bhopal on Wednesday.
Upon arriving in Bhopal, Scindia first visited Raj Bhavan to meet with Governor Mangubhai Patel before heading to Mishra's residence.
The closed-door discussion sparked considerable speculation within the state's political landscape.
However, in response to media inquiries, former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra clarified that Scindia's visit was merely a courtesy call.
"Let me be clear, I am not in the race for state BJP president," he stated.
Scindia's unexpected visit to Mishra's residence also generated intrigue, especially since other senior BJP leaders from the state have also met with him recently.
Prior to Scindia's visit, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya had a meeting with Mishra last Thursday.
The political atmosphere is rife with speculation that the ruling BJP is poised to appoint a new state BJP chief for Madhya Pradesh, with five-time former minister Narottam Mishra, who was defeated in the 2023 assembly elections, being viewed as a potential candidate.
Current MP BJP president VD Sharma assumed control of the state unit in February 2020 and completed his three-year term in February 2023. However, with assembly elections approaching in nine months, the party extended his tenure, bringing him close to four years in the role.
It is noteworthy that the BJP has finalized its district-level leadership in Madhya Pradesh, unveiling all 62 district presidents in stages, thus setting the stage for the next state president's appointment.
According to sources speaking to IANS, the state BJP unit has compiled a list of 431 party delegates, including the new district presidents. All delegates will be consulted before the central leadership selects Sharma's successor.
