Aizawl, Jan 26 (NationPress) The Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), urged the citizens to create a community where everyone can live with dignity, peace, prosperity, and happiness. While unfurling the national flag during the Republic Day celebration at the Assam Rifles ground, the Governor praised the tireless efforts of various security agencies in combating illegal cross-border activities, including smuggling, drug trafficking, and arms trading.

He stressed the necessity of collaborative efforts among the government, NGOs, churches, and local communities to address illegal activities and social challenges.

Mizoram joined the entire nation in commemorating its 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and fervor. In Aizawl, the state capital, the Governor raised the National Flag and acknowledged the salute from 23 parade contingents.

During his speech, the Governor underscored several major achievements and initiatives from the government.

He mentioned the government's flagship program, 'Bana Kaih (Hand Holding) Scheme', which aims to empower entrepreneurs and farmers through a variety of targeted initiatives, contributing to the vision of Vikshit Bharat by 2047. As part of this scheme, progress partners will receive loans from partner banks such as SBI, Mizoram Rural Bank, and Mizoram Cooperative Apex Bank, with the government acting as a guarantor.

Singh also pointed out that the scheme includes the Chief Minister’s Special Category Scheme, which offers financial support of up to Rs 1 lakh. He reiterated the government’s aim to introduce Minimum Support Price (MSP) for four essential crops: Ginger, Turmeric, Broom, and Mizo Bird-eye chilli.

Key infrastructure improvements highlighted by the Governor included the completion of 194 km of road construction, 264 km of blacktopping, and 98 km of high-strength concrete roads within the past year. In education, advancements included the construction of 14 school buildings, 35 classrooms, 43 toilet blocks, and renovations at 18 schools. Steps are being taken to resolve teacher shortages, and a state-owned university is being planned in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, stated the Governor.

He also brought attention to technological advancements, such as the launch of an online land record management system.

Furthermore, initiatives to enhance agriculture and livestock sectors include establishing a new animal feed plant in Lengpui, an edible oil processing plant in Falkawn, three new fish hatcheries, and 148 hectares of new ponds across all districts.

On this Republic Day, the Governor honored outstanding personnel from the Police, Excise and Narcotics, Fire and Emergency Services departments, as well as winners of state-level cleanliness competitions.
