Aizawl, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), emphasized the state's rich legacy of peace, harmony, and mutual respect shared between civilians and military personnel on Saturday.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Bharti Singh, he attended the State-level ex-servicemen rally held at Lammual Ground.

The occasion also saw the presence of Mizoram's Home Minister, K. Sapdanga.

The Governor remarked that Mizoram's ex-servicemen are distinguished among their peers nationwide, noting their impeccable attire and presentation as “an ideal representation of how an ex-serviceman should carry himself.”

He portrayed the rally as a striking testament to the mutual respect, trust, cooperation, and goodwill that exists between the public and the armed forces.

Highlighting the role of ex-servicemen as living icons of selfless service and sacrifice, he reflected on their sacrifices away from family in some of India’s most challenging and remote areas, ensuring national security.

General Singh (Retd.) praised the bravery, discipline, and dedication exhibited by ex-servicemen, acknowledging these traits as models to follow.

He expressed gratitude for the arrangements made for the event, particularly the establishment of a dedicated medical camp for ex-servicemen and their families, alongside a Grievance Redressal Cell to tackle issues concerning pensions, medical care, welfare programs, and resettlement.

He conveyed hope that these initiatives would prove beneficial and announced plans for larger, more comprehensive medical camps in the future.

The Governor reiterated the Mizoram government’s dedication to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, emphasizing the Mizo value of Tlawmngaihna — the spirit of selfless service and care for others — and the importance of treating veterans with the utmost dignity, care, and respect.

Home Minister K. Sapdanga hailed the rally as a grand homage to ex-servicemen who have made sacrifices for the nation, instilling immense pride and hope.

He paid tribute to those who endured lengthy stints in conflict zones and challenging terrains, always prioritizing duty.

Recognizing that the citizens of Mizoram deeply honor the sacrifices of ex-servicemen, he encouraged them to continue being exemplary figures in civilian life.

He urged the youth to take inspiration from these veterans and aim to become responsible citizens serving the nation and society.

After the formal program, the Governor toured various stalls set up at the rally and engaged warmly with the attending ex-servicemen.

During the event, honors and support were awarded to nine ex-servicemen, the family of one gallantry award recipient, and five Veer Naris.
