Aizawl, April 14 (NationPress) The Governor of Mizoram, Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), emphasized the state's extraordinary history on Tuesday, showcasing a profound journey that transitioned from strife and turmoil to reconciliation, ultimately achieving enduring peace and development.

During the launch of the book From Guerrilla Fighter to Chief Minister, written by former Chief Minister Zoramthanga, at the Aijal Club, the Governor praised it as a crucial and credible historical account that provides essential perspectives on significant eras of Mizoram's political evolution.

He remarked that the book transcends a simple personal narrative, as it narrates the author's extraordinary path from insurgency to accountable democratic leadership and statesmanship.

Singh noted that the memoir acts as a compelling reminder that through dialogue, empathy, and determination, one can conquer even the gravest obstacles.

The Governor commended Zoramthanga's unwavering commitment and insatiable quest for knowledge, stating that these attributes reflect remarkable political insight and authentic statesmanship. “It demonstrates that where there is a will, there is a way,” he commented.

He acknowledged the author's effort in chronicling history through his personal experiences and expressed hope that this memoir would assist the younger generation in grasping the intricacies of conflict while valuing the essence of peace and the robustness of democratic principles.

Singh indicated that the book will serve as an invaluable resource for students, researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

Author and former Chief Minister Zoramthanga described the book's release as a profoundly significant event in his life. He shared that he had diligently kept personal diaries for five decades, which were instrumental in the writing of the memoir.

As the President of the Mizo National Front, Mizoram's primary opposition party, Zoramthanga underscored that most events detailed in the book were personally observed or experienced by him.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to those who contributed to the book's preparation and publication, hoping that it would not only enrich the Mizo community but also enable readers from diverse backgrounds to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of Mizo history.

The former Chief Minister recounted a memorable personal story, recalling his first encounter with the Governor decades ago during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, when Singh served as a young Lieutenant in the Indian Army.

Zoramthanga found it a remarkable and unexpected coincidence that the same officer is now unveiling his book as the Governor of Mizoram.

During the event, Lalnunkimi Colney provided a thought-provoking preview of the book.

Notably, Zoramthanga, who is now in his eighties, has served as the Chief Minister of Mizoram for three non-consecutive terms (1998-2008 and 2018-2023).
