Swearing-In Ceremony of New Mizoram Governor Delayed to January 16

Aizawl, Jan 7 (NationPress) The inauguration ceremony for Gen Vijay Kumar Singh (retd), the former Union Minister and Army chief, as the new Governor of Mizoram, originally planned for January 9, has now been rescheduled to January 16, officials announced on Tuesday.
Officials from Raj Bhavan and the Mizoram government did not provide specific reasons for the change in the schedule of the swearing-in ceremony for the new Governor.
According to an official, the Governor-designate has postponed his journey to Mizoram along with the oath-taking ceremony. Another official, citing a source close to the new Governor, mentioned that the delay in arrival might be attributed to a family member's medical treatment.
Previously, Mizoram government officials indicated that Gen Singh (retd) would be arriving in Aizawl on January 8, with the swearing-in ceremony to follow the next day.
The Governor-designate is now expected to reach Aizawl on January 15, with the inauguration ceremony scheduled for the subsequent day.
Mizoram is currently without a Governor after the previous incumbent, Hari Babu Kambhampati, who served for over three years and five months, departed the state on January 2 to assume the gubernatorial role in Odisha the following day.
Officials indicated that the new Governor is anticipated to convene the Budget session shortly after his swearing-in ceremony.
Gen Singh (retd) previously held the position of the 24th Chief of Army Staff. Following his retirement from the army, he transitioned into politics, winning a seat in the Lok Sabha from Ghaziabad on a BJP ticket in both the 2014 and 2019 elections.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term, he held the positions of Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation. In PM Modi's second term, he oversaw the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
