General VK Singh (retd) Set to Take Office as New Mizoram Governor on January 9

Aizawl, Dec 30 (NationPress) The newly appointed Governor of Mizoram, General Vijay Kumar Singh (retd), is set to take office on January 9, following the tenure of Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has been designated as the Governor of Odisha by President Droupadi Murmu on December 24, according to officials.

A senior official from the Mizoram government disclosed that the Governor-designate is expected to reach Aizawl on December 8, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to occur at the Circular Lawn, Raj Bhawan the following day.

Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma has previously expressed gratitude to both the outgoing Governor Kambhampati and the incoming Governor, General V.K. Singh (retd).

In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister stated: "I sincerely thank Hari Babu Kambhampati for his dedicated service as Governor of Mizoram and wish him success as the Governor of Odisha. A warm welcome to General (retd.) VK Singh on his appointment as Mizoram's new Governor. We look forward to his leadership ahead."

Kambhampati, who served as a professor at Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years, was appointed as the Mizoram Governor in 2021.

Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das has resigned from his position as Odisha Governor, a resignation that has been accepted by President Murmu.

The newly appointed Mizoram Governor, General V.K. Singh, previously held the position of the 24th Chief of Army Staff. After his military service, he ventured into politics and won election as a Member of Parliament from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on a BJP ticket during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

During the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he served as the Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation.

In the second term of PM Modi, he took on roles as Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
