Aizawl, March 19 (NationPress) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma officially introduced the 'Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHS)' on Wednesday, set to commence on April 1 this year.

During the launch held at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall, the Chief Minister highlighted that the initiative is designed to supersede prior healthcare programs, ensuring that empanelled hospitals operate smoothly while offering extensive health coverage and protection.

He asserted that development and the welfare of the populace are inextricably linked, and a strong healthcare infrastructure is vital for the well-being of everyone.

Expressing optimism, the Chief Minister believes that citizens will embrace this initiative. The scheme will be executed online in a completely paperless format, promoting efficiency.

Additionally, it will function on a cashless basis, removing the necessity for individuals to pay out of pocket.

A senior official from the Health and Family Welfare Department noted that the scheme was launched after a comprehensive assessment of the state's advancements over the last five years.

Despite facing financial hurdles, the government has prioritized this initiative, with banks committed to providing full support, ensuring its feasibility, he mentioned.

The scheme was initially envisioned with financing from an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, and that process is still underway.

However, even if the ADB funding does not materialize, the state government is confident in the successful rollout of the scheme.

With the scheme's launch approaching in April, the government plans to allocate Rs 14.50 crore this month to address pending healthcare payments, as stated by the official.

The initiative encompasses all government employees, civil pensioners, the general public, and all individuals holding Golden Cards under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

Residents can enroll in the scheme during the designated period, with an annual registration fee for families set at Rs 2,500. The scheme offers healthcare coverage up to Rs 5 lakh.

Government employees and civil pensioners will contribute through deductions from their monthly salaries. After his address, the Chief Minister engaged with the media regarding the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme.

Attendees of the event included Mizoram Assembly Speaker K. Sapdanga, Home Minister Lalrinpuii, Health and Family Welfare Minister, other Ministers, MLAs, and key officials.
