During the inauguration of a two-day Knowledge Exchange Health Conclave hosted under the Rs 280-crore Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) initiated by the Health and Family Welfare Department, the Chief Minister reiterated that healthcare is one of the government’s foremost priorities, with ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
Health representatives from nine states across India are participating in this conclave, taking place at Falkland Park.
Lalduhoma emphasized that the health of the populace is a crucial pillar for the comprehensive development of the state, leading to a strong focus on the health sector.
He pointed out that Mizoram has rolled out the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), which is recognized as one of the finest healthcare systems nationwide, allowing patients to avail cashless treatment through accredited hospitals.
To enhance healthcare services, advanced medical equipment has been acquired, and numerous initiatives have been initiated to strengthen the health sector further, he stated.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that many accomplishments in the health sector have been made possible through the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project and expressed gratitude to both the World Bank and the Central Government for their support.
He also mentioned that the conclave would serve as an invaluable platform for exchanging knowledge with health sector experts from various states across India.
Discussions at the conclave are expected to yield improved strategies, broader understanding, and enhanced collaboration within the health sector, benefiting not just Mizoram but the entire nation, Lalduhoma added. He also expressed appreciation to the MHSSP for hosting the conclave.
During this occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled a coffee table book.
In her address, Health Minister Lalrinpuii mentioned that the MHSSP has led to significant advancements in medical facilities and health centers through the procurement of new equipment and the efficient use of resources.
Consequently, Mizoram has achieved national quality certifications for its healthcare institutions, she added.
The Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project commenced in 2021 with financial backing from the World Bank and is set to run for five years, concluding in March 2026.
MHSSP Project Director Lily Chhakchhuak provided an overview of the project’s progress, revealing that the total cost of the project is Rs 280 crore.
As of January 2026, four out of five Project Development Objectives have been met, and 14 out of 16 Intermediate Result Indicators have been achieved. The remaining goals are anticipated to be fulfilled by the end of March 2026.
Health officials indicated that a significant initiative under this project is the launch of the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme in March 2025.
Under the MUHCS, an enrolment target of 91% has already been accomplished. In recognition of this success, the National Health Authority awarded Mizoram the “Best Performance in Achieving Card Saturation” title in January 2026.
The two-day Knowledge Exchange Health Conclave includes health sector experts and representatives from various states such as Telangana, Meghalaya, Nagaland, West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, alongside representatives from the Gates Foundation and the North Eastern Council (NEC).
