Aizawl, Aug 13 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, stated on Wednesday that the state is situated in close proximity to the Golden Triangle, known for its extensive drug trafficking activities.
During the launch of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign) in Aizawl, the Chief Minister highlighted that this geographic position has resulted in a significant influx of drugs into the region.
He emphasized that drugs contribute no positive aspects to society and must be completely eliminated, urging communities to maintain vigilance and unity against drug abuse to protect Mizo society from these detrimental influences.
Lalduhoma encouraged the youth to completely refrain from drugs, cautioning that even sporadic use can lead to addiction.
He also called on individuals already ensnared in addiction to bravely step away and reconstruct their lives.
As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, events at the Mizoram State Level and Aizawl District Level were held in Aizawl, featuring a “Rally – Fight Against Drugs” that involved over 600 students from various educational institutions.
The rally commenced from two designated points, Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn, converging at Lammual for the main event.
The Chief Minister initiated the rally from Chanmari and participated in the walk to Lammual.
Health Minister Lalrinpuii and Excise and Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also addressed the gathering.
Participants displayed placards with anti-drug messages, and a competition for the best placard designs was held, with prizes awarded to the winners.
The event featured Miss Vanlalnuntluangi, Miss Grand India, who led the crowd in taking an anti-drug pledge. Officials noted that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is currently being implemented in 372 districts across India, including all districts in Mizoram.
The campaign primarily aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and to prevent first-time users from engaging with drugs. The rally in Aizawl was organized to commemorate the 5th anniversary of this campaign.
