New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation today with the Acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez, where they had an extensive dialogue focused on enhancing the collaboration between their nations.
"I had a fruitful discussion with Acting President of Venezuela, Ms. Delcy Rodríguez. We reached a consensus to further enrich and broaden our bilateral partnership across all sectors, aiming for a shared vision to elevate India-Venezuela relations to unprecedented levels in the coming years," PM Modi shared on X following the call.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) indicated that both leaders consented to advance the India-Venezuela partnership across various domains, including trade, investment, energy, digital technology, health, agriculture, and people-to-people connections.
They also exchanged insights on numerous regional and global issues of shared interest, emphasizing the significance of their close collaboration for the Global South.
A statement from the PMO confirmed, "The two leaders agreed to maintain ongoing communication." The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that India and Venezuela have consistently enjoyed friendly relations, stemming from a convergence of views on key international, political, and economic matters. In addition to proactively fostering bilateral ties, the two nations collaborate within multilateral platforms. The year 2023 marked the 64th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, with resident embassies established in Caracas and New Delhi for over forty years.
Venezuela has emerged as one of India's major oil suppliers.
Under the ITEC program, Venezuelan experts are dispatched to India annually. The ICCR has granted four scholarships for Venezuela starting from the 2017 academic year. Presently, approximately 50 NRIs and 30 PIOs reside in Venezuela.
