PM Modi to lay Jaipur Metro Phase-II foundation stone on July 4
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Jaipur Metro Phase-II on 4 July, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced on Wednesday, 24 June, at a development ceremony in Jaipur. The ₹13,000 crore-plus project is set to reshape urban mobility in the Pink City, with work orders already issued for the Prahladpura–Pinjrapole Gaushala corridor.
Metro Phase-II: What the Project Covers
The Prahladpura–Pinjrapole Gaushala corridor forms the first actionable stretch of the Phase-II expansion. According to the Chief Minister, the metro extension will ease traffic congestion, cut commute times, and inject fresh momentum into Jaipur's urban development agenda. The investment of more than ₹13,000 crore makes it one of the largest infrastructure commitments in Rajasthan's recent history.
Key Developments Announced at Sanganer Stadium
Addressing a combined inauguration, foundation stone-laying, and lease distribution ceremony at Sanganer Stadium, Chief Minister Sharma dedicated 1,538 development works worth approximately ₹631 crore. The projects span roads, water supply, and electricity services across the state.
Foundation stones were laid for a flyover at Muhana Mod on the Jaipur–Bhilwara Road, a sewerage treatment plant in Bambala costing over ₹88 crore, a satellite hospital in Prithviraj Nagar, a trauma centre in Bhankrota, and restoration and beautification works at 115 temples in Sanganer.
Sanitation Push: Rajasthan's First Mechanical Garbage-Pickers
Sharma announced the deployment of five state-of-the-art mechanical garbage-picker machines — the first such initiative in Rajasthan. The machines are designed to collect waste from footpaths, narrow lanes, and hard-to-reach areas including beneath transformers, significantly upgrading urban sanitation management. The Chief Minister also flagged off a Super Sucker machine for sewer-cleaning operations and awareness vehicles for Swachh Survekshan 2026.
Swamitva Scheme: Nearly 14 Lakh Ownership Cards Distributed
Sharma highlighted the transformative reach of the Swamitva (Ownership) Scheme, under which drone-based surveys have mapped residential properties in more than 8,000 villages across Rajasthan. Nearly 14 lakh ownership cards have been distributed to beneficiaries, granting legal property rights to rural households.
'The state government is working with full commitment for the welfare and development of all eight crore people of Rajasthan. Our priority is to ensure that the benefits of development reach every citizen,' Sharma said. He added that the government's guiding principle — 'Vikaas Bhi Virasat Bhi' (Development as well as Heritage) — aims to pair modern infrastructure with the preservation of Rajasthan's cultural legacy.
Ongoing Flagship Projects
Several major projects are reportedly progressing rapidly, including the Unity Mall, Riddhi-Siddhi Flyover, Sanganer Elevated Road, and the Dravyavati River development project. This comes amid a broader state push to align with central urban schemes such as the Smart Cities Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), PM SVANidhi, AMRUT, and the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The event was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Urban Development and Local Self-Government Jhabar Singh Kharra, Member of Parliament Manju Sharma, senior officials, and a large number of citizens. All eyes now turn to 4 July, when Prime Minister Modi's foundation stone-laying ceremony is expected to formally launch the metro expansion.
