Chandigarh, June 10 (NationPress) The BJP's governance, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has heralded an era of remarkable growth in India over the past 11 years. According to Sunil Jakhar, the President of the Punjab unit of the party, India has ascended to the position of the fourth-largest economy globally. He expressed this sentiment during a media briefing on Tuesday.
Applauding the nation’s phenomenal growth metrics, he remarked, “Our country has even surpassed Japan in terms of development.”
“This achievement is not a mere coincidence; it stems from a steadfast commitment to crafting policies and principles that prioritize transformative decisions over the past 11 years,” he added.
Reflecting on the numerous accomplishments of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jakhar highlighted the significant progress made, including the provision of free rations to 81 crore individuals, health insurance benefits for 55 crore, establishment of four crore houses for underprivileged families, and the provision of drinking water to 50 crore households, alongside the construction of millions of toilets nationwide. Jakhar pointed out that India's impressive 6.5% GDP growth has driven industrial expansion, resulting in increased employment opportunities.
“The nation’s infrastructure is undergoing a transformation; the extensive development of highways and bridges has significantly altered the landscape, paving the way for progress and prosperity. The construction of an astounding 55,000 km of highways and expressways is a remarkable feat,” he noted.
Praising Prime Minister Modi's vision, Jakhar mentioned that in 2014, there were merely eight AIIMS facilities across the country.
“Today, we boast 24, tripling the number in just 11 years. In Punjab, we have the AIIMS Bathinda, a substantial medical facility, with plans for more hospitals of similar stature in other towns,” he elaborated.
Jakhar further stressed the BJP's commitment to women's rights and equality, emphasizing the forthcoming passage of the women reservation Bill.
“The social dynamics of our nation have evolved to be more progressive, ensuring equity and wealth distribution is a reality. The quality of living and the ease of doing business have greatly enhanced the lives of millions. The significant rise in minimum support price (MSP) has bolstered incomes in Punjab, an agricultural economy, where food grain purchases have surged from Rs 32,211 crore in 2014 to Rs 68,771 crore this year,” he clarified.
When asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claims that there has been no progress over the past 11 years, Jakhar responded: “The 6.5% growth rate, our position as the fourth-largest economy, advancements in infrastructure, women empowerment, and the passing of vital Bills are all visible indicators. It is unfortunate if someone chooses to adopt a narrow perspective.”
