Chandigarh, Aug 17 (NationPress) The Punjab BJP president, Sunil Jakhar, urged all parties to set aside their political divides and unite behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of the nation, particularly regarding his steadfast support for farmers amidst US pressure.
Jakhar highlighted that the United States, which positions itself as a global enforcer, has been persistently pushing India to permit its agricultural products into Indian markets.
To exert influence, the US has implemented strict tariff restrictions on India.
“Nevertheless, Prime Minister Modi recognizes that permitting US agricultural imports would be detrimental to Indian farmers, and he has resolutely resisted this pressure,” he stated.
Jakhar pointed out that while many global powers have yielded to US demands, Modi has consistently prioritized the welfare of Indian farmers and has refused to compromise by opening Indian markets to US products.
He called upon farmers and their organizations to stand firmly with the Prime Minister, emphasizing that this solidarity is essential for him to advocate for farmers' rights more effectively.
Jakhar further criticized political parties shedding “crocodile tears” over the Punjab government's land pooling policy, claiming they did little to challenge the administration.
It was only the BJP that made significant efforts to safeguard farmers' land and fostered public opposition against the policy.
Due to the BJP's advocacy and the strong resistance from the people of Punjab, the government was compelled to retract this policy.
He noted that the citizens of Punjab now clearly discern who engages in politics on behalf of farmers and who genuinely supports them during challenging times.
Jakhar stressed the importance of identifying those who exploit farmers for political gain while contributing nothing of substance.
In contrast, the BJP has firmly opposed the land pooling policy in Punjab and has stood resolutely with farmers.
On a national level, Prime Minister Modi has taken a strong stance against the US to safeguard the interests of the nation's farmers.
Jakhar encouraged everyone to take advantage of this moment to support the Prime Minister in his endeavors.
