Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Feb 8 (NationPress) The President of BJP's Punjab unit, Sunil Jakhar, proclaimed on Sunday that the India-US trade agreement serves the interests of both nations, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing farmers' protections within the framework of the deal.
He emphasized that this agreement is set to enhance Punjab's industrial growth and generate fresh job opportunities for the youth.
Jakhar addressed the media, stating that the Union government effectively concluded a deal with the world’s largest economy after thorough discussions, aimed at fostering industrial advancement in both the country and Punjab while ensuring no negative repercussions for farmers, particularly in the state.
He pointed out that all crops cultivated in Punjab have been excluded from this agreement.
Jakhar added that Prime Minister Modi and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reached this agreement after extensive negotiations, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding farmers' interests.
He assured that there would be no imports from the US regarding crops like wheat, rice, maize, or any other produce native to Punjab.
Moreover, the agreement guarantees complete protection for the dairy industry.
The state BJP President urged leaders from AAP and Congress to rise above party politics and commend the government for this agreement, which he believes is made in the national interest. However, he criticized them for not being a constructive opposition, asserting that the AAP government's silence indicates the agreement's advantages.
He appealed to those against the agreement to refrain from opposing for the sake of opposition and to base their arguments on factual evidence.
"With the government’s assurance that farmers’ interests are secured, any opposition is unwarranted," he stated.
Jakhar further mentioned that the agreement is likely to boost exports and provide new directions for industrial development, consequently creating additional job prospects.
In a separate matter, he condemned the Punjab government’s suspension of two senior IAS officers, labeling it as highly inappropriate. He noted that IAS officers constitute the "steel frame" of democracy, and criticized those who have faced corruption charges in Delhi for attempting to promote corruption in Punjab. He called for intervention from the Home Minister or the Administrative Tribunal to prevent undue pressure on officers to engage in unlawful activities.
