Seoni, Nov 12 (NationPress) In a significant move, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the disbursement of increased monthly support of Rs 1,500 to beneficiaries of the 'Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna' scheme during an event in Seoni district.
The Chief Minister executed a single-click transfer of Rs 1,857 crore into the accounts of over 1.26 crore scheme beneficiaries, marking the 30th instalment of this initiative.
Recently, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet sanctioned an increase of Rs 250 in the monthly support for eligible women under the Ladli Behna scheme, raising the monthly amount to Rs 1,500 effective November.
This scheme supports more than 1.26 crore women aged between 21 and 60 years, whose family income is below Rs 2.5 lakh, providing regular financial assistance from the state government.
Initially introduced by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in March 2023 with a monthly aid of Rs 1,000, the amount was later elevated to Rs 1,250 in October of the same year, just before the State Assembly elections.
Prior to this enhancement, the government was allocating Rs 1,541 crore monthly for the beneficiaries. The additional Rs 250 per beneficiary is projected to incur an extra Rs 1,793.75 crore for the financial year 2025-26.
Though the increased payment of Rs 1,500 was anticipated to be included in the October instalment, it was not executed as planned.
The State Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda had earmarked Rs 18,669 crore for this scheme in the budget presented in the Assembly in March.
Furthermore, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pledged in its 2023 Assembly election manifesto to escalate the monthly support to Rs 3,000 by 2028.
