MP CM Mohan Yadav orders collectors to ensure fertiliser supply to farmers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, directed all district collectors across the state to guarantee adequate and timely fertiliser availability to farmers, warning that collectors would be held personally accountable for any supply disruptions during the ongoing agricultural season.
What the Chief Minister Said
Addressing district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) via a video conference from his official residence in Bhopal, Yadav made clear that the entire administrative machinery must stay on high alert. 'Farmers should not face any difficulty in getting fertilisers or other essential supplies. Collectors will be held responsible if any such problem arises,' he said, according to a statement issued by his office.
The Agriculture Department Secretary informed the meeting that fertiliser supplies across the state were currently adequate, with no reported shortages.
Crop-Loss Surveys in 12 Districts
Yadav instructed officials to carry out crop-loss surveys in 12 districts that received normal rainfall this season. He specified that the surveys must follow the availability of anawari (crop yield assessment) figures, and that eligible farmers should subsequently receive relief under applicable government schemes.
Diwali Preparations and Public Safety
The Chief Minister also reviewed arrangements for Diwali and directed collectors and police chiefs to ensure peaceful celebrations backed by adequate security. He explicitly ordered a crackdown on banned firecrackers and carbide guns and lamps, which pose documented health risks. He further directed that small traders selling fruits, flowers, earthen lamps, cotton wicks, and decorative lights in major markets be exempted from local vending charges during the festival period and not subjected to unnecessary harassment.
Action Against Illicit Liquor and Drug Networks
Yadav directed police and excise officials to take strict action against the manufacture, sale, and transportation of illicit liquor, including physical verification of vehicles carrying liquor and regular sampling from licensed outlets to screen for harmful substances. On the anti-drug front, he called for dismantling trafficking networks, action against illegal cultivation of cannabis and opium, and intensified surveillance around schools, colleges, coaching centres, bus stands, and railway stations.
Govardhan Puja on November 9
The Chief Minister announced that Govardhan Puja would be organised statewide on 9 November, with a major event in Bhopal. District administrations were asked to hold cow-worship programmes at gaushalas and publicise government incentives and technical assistance available to cattle rearers. The directives collectively signal the government's intent to tighten both agrarian and civic administration ahead of the festive period.
