On November 15, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav kicked off numerous initiatives totaling over Rs 662 crore aimed at the comprehensive advancement and welfare of tribal communities during a special event celebrating Janjatiya Gaurv Divas. This occasion also honored the 150th birth anniversary of the iconic tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
The event in Jabalpur featured the launch of the 'Shalini App', designed to provide insights into tribal welfare programs, as well as showcase the rich culture and history of tribal communities, with the Chief Minister and Governor Mangubhai Patel in attendance.
In his address to the tribal community, Chief Minister Yadav remarked on the Mahakaushal region as the birthplace of numerous esteemed tribal heroes, highlighting the contributions of Gond rulers to effective governance.
He noted the extraordinary sacrifice made by Gondwana’s martyrs, Shankar Shah and Raghunath Shah, who set a remarkable precedent for patriotism during the 1857 uprising, ultimately facing execution as a consequence.
Furthermore, Yadav acknowledged the involvement of tribal warrior Badal Bhoi from Chhindwara, who joined the fight for freedom in 1923, sacrificing his life along with numerous others.
The Chief Minister declared that all girls' hostels and ashrams under the Tribal Affairs Department would be named after Veerangana Rani Durgavati, while boys' hostels would be named in honor of Maharaja Shankar Shah and Raghunath Shah.
Additionally, he announced plans to recruit 5,000 hostel superintendents by 2026.
Earlier that day, CM Yadav had inaugurated the state-level Tribal Pride Day in Jabalpur and also participated in a similar event in Alirajpur, a tribal-heavy district in Madhya Pradesh, where he paid tribute to Birsa Munda and other notable tribal leaders.
During his address in Alirajpur, he recalled the revolutionary spirit of freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad, who hailed from the region, born in 1906.
