New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Rakesh Rathore, a Member of Parliament representing the Congress party from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended by law enforcement on Thursday under allegations of raping a woman.

His arrest occurred during a press briefing at his residence, where police took him into custody.

The MP is facing serious accusations of sexual assault against a woman. Just a day prior, his plea for anticipatory bail was denied by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.

The court instructed the parliamentarian to surrender within a fortnight. Before this, a non-bailable warrant had been issued against him by the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court.

According to allegations, Rakesh Rathore is accused of sexually exploiting the woman under the guise of marriage and intimidating her with severe repercussions if she sought police intervention. A formal complaint was lodged against him at the local police station. As stated by SP Chakresh Mishra, the Sitapur MP was on the run after being charged with rape.

Reports indicate that the victim possesses recordings of threats and coercion allegedly made by Rakesh Rathore, which are believed to have been submitted to the authorities.

The woman asserts that she first met the lawmaker in 2018, during which he purportedly brought her to his home and raped her.

Furthermore, she claims that Rathore had vowed to marry her following his divorce.

The MP is accused of enticing her with deceitful promises and exploiting her status as a public representative, intending to sexually exploit her. She alleges that she was raped multiple times at his residence and faced blackmail.

Reports quoting the victim suggest that Rakesh Rathore compelled her to sign a blank document to ensure her silence regarding the incident, threatening to ruin her reputation if she did not comply.
