Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) The government announced on Thursday that the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Economic Forum (WEF) for a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing India’s skills and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework.
Through this partnership, MSDE and WEF will unveil a Skills Accelerator in India. This multistakeholder platform is designed to identify, scale, and expedite innovative solutions and public-private partnerships to tackle pressing skills shortages in the workforce.
The Accelerator aims to fortify India's TVET ecosystem by ensuring a closer synchronization between skilling initiatives and the ever-evolving requirements of industry and the global economy.
“What started as a strategic vision to synchronize India’s skilling ecosystem with the future of work has now evolved into a structured, global initiative. The formal establishment of the India Skills Accelerator, in partnership with the World Economic Forum, signifies a crucial milestone in cultivating a future-ready, globally competitive workforce,” remarked Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the vision for a developed India by 2047, reinforcing skilling as a fundamental element of inclusive growth and national transformation.
Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education, emphasized that this collaboration perfectly complements the vision of NEP 2020 by merging education with skilling, promoting lifelong learning, and adapting curricula to future industry requirements.
The Skills Accelerator will strategically target skills deficits by advocating for lifelong learning, upskilling, and reskilling.
This initiative will also promote a flexible curriculum, merge vocational and higher education pathways, ensure mutual recognition of qualifications, and enhance capacity building across institutions.
MSDE will collaborate closely with higher education institutions, vocational training centers, and regulatory bodies like AICTE and UGC to facilitate awareness, execution, and expansion of the Accelerator.
This agreement marks a new chapter in India and WEF relations, building on the enthusiasm generated during India's presence at the 55th WEF Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, in January 2025, where skill development was acknowledged as a strategic pillar for inclusive growth and global cooperation.
