Bihar: Allegations of Murder in Former Minister's Family Spark Demand for SIT Investigation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, April 7 (NationPress) Notable businessman Varun Kumar Singh, the son-in-law of former Bihar minister Sanjeev Prasad Tony, has called for justice and enhanced security in light of the suspicious passing of his sister, Khushboo Singh.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, Varun accused that his sister was a victim of murder orchestrated through a conspiracy in Muzaffarpur, occurring merely six months after her wedding.
He expressed concerns that voicing his allegations has endangered his life and that of his family.
Varun urged the government to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT), demand the prompt arrest of all involved, and guarantee ongoing security for his family.
As per Varun, Khushboo was married on June 1, 2025, to Sudhanshu Singh, an NRI living in the Brahmpura region of Muzaffarpur.
He alleged that during the wedding, the groom’s family made exorbitant demands, including a Fortuner car, jewelry valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, and Rs 51 lakh in cash as dowry.
Varun stated that most of these demands were met, with the exception of the car, after which his sister reportedly faced ongoing mental and physical abuse.
He further claimed that the demands escalated to include a flat in Delhi.
On December 26, 2025, Varun received information from his brother-in-law’s father stating that Khushboo had perished due to burns and asphyxiation.
However, he raised serious doubts regarding the circumstances of her death.
Varun alleged that by the time the family reached Muzaffarpur, the police and forensic investigations had already concluded.
He also claimed he was denied a proper view of his sister’s body, which was reportedly missing valuable jewelry, including her mangalsutra.
He questioned the state of the room, asserting that it did not convincingly indicate death by burns or suffocation.
Varun accused the local police of displaying undue leniency towards the alleged perpetrators and procrastinating on the complaint registration.
Despite public pressure leading to the arrest of Khushboo’s husband, Sudhanshu Singh, Varun alleged that no significant action has been taken against the other suspects, including her mother-in-law, Mamta Singh, and father-in-law, Sanjeev Singh.
He further alleged that the remaining suspects were permitted to escape and that efforts are being made to undermine the case against them.
Varun claimed he has encountered repeated threats and that an attempt on his life occurred in the presence of security personnel.
He expressed grave concern that these actions are aimed at obstructing his quest for justice.
Formal complaints have been submitted to senior officials, including Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary, DGP Vinay Kumar, IG Tirhut Chandan Kushwaha, and SSP Muzaffarpur Kantesh Kumar Mishra.
Varun has called for a high-level SIT investigation, the swift arrest of all involved parties, and permanent government protection for his family.
Issuing a strong warning, he stated that if any harm befalls him or his family, the responsibility will rest with the authorities and the government.
