J.P. Nadda's Cylinder Hoarding Allegation Sparks Opposition Outcry
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Union Minister J.P. Nadda's assertion in Parliament on Monday about a Congress leader allegedly hoarding gas cylinders has ignited fierce backlash from various Opposition factions, including Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT.
This statement emerged after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed worries in the Rajya Sabha regarding a purported shortage of LPG.
In response to Nadda's claims, Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi remarked, "If you read the daily news, it highlights how food prices are soaring. Previously, those reliant on 'Dhaba' meals are now forced to contribute to the fruit market. The public is increasingly resorting to using stoves."
She questioned the Oppositions' alleged wrongdoing, asking, "What basis does JP Nadda have to accuse a politician of hoarding cylinders?"
Chaturvedi went on to assert that similar issues are prevalent across other states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 'double engine' leadership.
She further blamed the Central government for its lack of preparedness in handling such a crisis.
"For the past two years, they were aware that the US might strike Iran, yet the government failed to stockpile LPG. We are uncertain about the duration of this conflict, but the public is acutely aware of the LPG scarcity, leading to long queues," she stated.
Defending the Congress party, MP Kumari Selja stated, "Why would a politician engage in hoarding? The Congress party addresses issues relevant to public welfare as part of our duty."
She emphasized that the existence of long queues for cylinder refueling is evident to everyone.
"The Opposition has a role to play. We will continue to bring such matters to light," Selja asserted.
Another Congress MP, Rajini Patil, accused the BJP of attempting to sidetrack the discussion.
"Whenever they wish to divert attention, they fabricate lies. There is no hoarding of cylinders occurring, and if anyone, whether from the Congress or BJP, is found guilty of such actions, they should face stringent consequences," she claimed.
Congress MP Viriato Fernandes urged the government to acknowledge its errors.
"Our foreign policy is in disarray, resulting in Iran imposing restrictions on ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz," he added.
Fernandes further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not jeopardize the nation due to his personal pride.
