Amaravati, Nov 23 (NationPress) YSR Congress Party leader and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed on Sunday that the 18-month tenure of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has caused severe harm to farmers, leading to a historic decline in crop prices.
He stated that due to Naidu’s careless governance, farmers have been devastated by plummeting prices for paddy, maize, banana, coconut, cotton, pulses, millets, chilli, tobacco, onion, tomato, cocoa, sugarcane, mango, and many other crops. This has pushed them into such dire straits that they are now compelled to replant their own harvested produce due to the absence of government assistance.
Instead of confronting the crisis he has caused, Naidu is attempting to shift the blame through publicity stunts such as “Raitanna- Meekosam,” while misleading farmers into believing they are at fault for their plight, Jagan Mohan Reddy remarked in a message on ‘X’.
The Chief Minister has declared his intention to actively engage in the “Raitanna – Meekosam” outreach initiative scheduled from November 24 to 29, and again on December 3.
YS Jagan questioned how Naidu can spend crores on three chartered flights, six helicopters, overseas trips, weekend excursions to Hyderabad, political vendetta cases, costly lawyers, paid media campaigns, and his yellow media network, yet refuses to allocate even minimal funds to assist farmers.
He ridiculed the government’s boast about a teleconference with 10,000 participants, asking why the Chief Minister does not simply communicate with ten collectors and instruct them to provide funds to ensure fair prices. Despite repeated price crashes over the past 18 months, the government has not sanctioned even a single rupee for price stabilization, he claimed.
The YSRCP highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has faced nearly 16 natural disasters, yet Naidu has never offered input subsidies, announced compensation, or personally addressed the suffering of farmers. Rather than supporting those demanding justice or visiting them, the government has filed false cases to intimidate them.
He stated that while loud announcements are made, actual implementation is absent, as evidenced repeatedly with farmers of chilli, tobacco, mango, and onion.
YS Jagan accused Naidu of systematically dismantling every protective measure established during the YSRCP administration, including free crop insurance, RBKs, e-Crop, CMAPP, and doorstep procurement, thereby stripping away the safety, assurance, and guarantees once provided to farmers.
Free crop insurance has been eliminated, and the government lacks answers for lakhs of farmers affected by cyclones and natural calamities who fall outside insurance coverage, nor has it specified when compensation will be distributed.
The government still owes Rs. 600 crore in outstanding input subsidies and has not clarified when farmers impacted by the latest storm will receive relief, he asserted.
Naidu pledged Rs. 20,000 per year under Annadata Sukhibhava in addition to PM-Kisan, but has only disbursed Rs 10,000 out of the promised Rs 40,000 over two years. The situation has deteriorated to the point where farmers are now forced to purchase fertilizers on the black market and rely on middlemen for survival, the YSRCP leader concluded.
