Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Jan 8 (NationPress) The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and YSRCP President, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday, accusing him of betraying various groups within the state.
During a press briefing, Jagan labeled Naidu as a betrayer, claiming he prioritizes his personal interests over those of the public.
He provided a detailed account of Naidu's alleged misdeeds and the workings of his propaganda machinery.
Additionally, he criticized Naidu for engaging in credit theft, pervasive corruption, and extreme financial mismanagement.
Jagan discussed how Naidu deceived the people regarding the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation (RLI) project, which he claimed has deeply offended the sentiments of the local populace.
He accused Naidu of obstructing the RLI project and allowing the neighboring state of Telangana to take more than its fair share of water, as part of an effort to evade the cash-for-vote scandal, which has already been exposed through audio and video evidence.
According to Jagan, Naidu's comments, alongside those from his Irrigation Minister labeling the RLI as a waste, demonstrate their characterlessness in failing the people of Rayalaseema. This sentiment was echoed by the Chief Minister of Telangana during a legislative session, serving as further evidence of this alleged betrayal.
Jagan asserted that it was under Naidu’s leadership that Telangana developed infrastructure to enhance its water intake from the Srisailam project.
Telangana has been extracting water through lift and powerhouse operations, reportedly drawing 8 TMC of water daily from the Srisailam project at levels between 777 to 825 feet.
Given this situation, Jagan argued that Andhra Pradesh has little chance of accessing water, as the Srisailam levels are insufficient for the state's needs. He emphasized that the only solution is the RLI project, which aims to draw 3 TMC at an 800-foot level from Srisailam.
He alleged that Naidu’s betrayal started with his party's influence over filing cases at the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to halt the RLI project.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government reportedly ignored NGT notices, advancing its projects without hindrance. Jagan pointed out that Naidu failed to engage with the NGT during its three meetings, which reflects his lack of concern.
He also mentioned that control over the Nagarjuna Sagar project was held by Telangana until the YSRCP intervened, ensuring that all reservoirs were filled to capacity during their term.
Jagan accused Naidu of credit theft regarding the Bhogapuram airport, asserting that the groundwork was laid by the YSRCP government, which secured the necessary permissions.
He dismissed claims that industries left the state during the YSRCP's term as entirely inaccurate, stating that several major companies were driven away due to the coalition's excessive commissions and harassment. He noted that misinformation about investments, industries, and job creation has been rampant, with the statistics favoring the YSRCP administration.
Jagan claimed that dissatisfaction spans all demographics, including farmers, students, women, the unemployed, and employees, towards the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition government.
He highlighted Naidu's promise of no power tariff hikes, contrasted with an increase of Rs 20,135 crore in electricity costs.
Jagan pointed out that registration fees, road cess, tolls, and various charges have been raised, yet the state struggles to generate revenue, indicating the extent of corruption. He also mentioned rampant commissions in sectors ranging from land to liquor and gambling.
He stated that while the YSRCP government accumulated debts of Rs 3.32 lakh crore over five years and provided Rs 2.73 lakh crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Naidu’s TDP government has raised Rs 3.02 lakh crore in less than two terms without accountability on the expenditures.
Jagan remarked that while the YSRCP adheres to a welfare agenda, Naidu is focused on maintaining a loan agenda.
In defense of seeking legal action against the privatization of medical colleges, Jagan argued that the one crore signatures collected symbolize the people's will and should reach a logical resolution.
