Nawsad Siddique Initiates Legal Action Against Trinamool MLA Saukat Molla

Kolkata, Jan 9 (NationPress) Nawsad Siddique, the sole representative of All India Secular Front (AISF), has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Trinamool Congress legislator Saukat Molla following Molla’s recent controversial remarks referring to Siddique as a terrorist.

Siddique serves as the MLA for Bhangar, while Molla represents the constituency of Canning (East), both of which are located in the South 24 Parganas district.

These constituencies are notorious for frequent political conflicts involving supporters from both parties and occasionally among factions of the ruling party itself.

The lawsuit has been lodged at the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in Kolkata.

In the lawsuit, Siddique’s attorney asserts that Molla’s claims labeling Siddique a “terrorist” are “baseless, motivated, and damaging to the reputation of an elected public representative.”

The legal representation for Siddique further contends that such defamatory statements not only tarnish the image of an elected official but also undermine the integrity of any democratic framework.

The court of ACJM has accepted the petition.

It has been reported that a summons will be issued to Molla, requiring his presence in court on a designated date to present his defense.

In response to the situation, Molla informed the media that he intends to address the defamation suit through the appropriate legal channels.

Siddique was elected from Bhangar during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, at which time the AISF was part of a larger coalition with Congress and the CPI(M)-led Left Front.

Molla, who has served two terms as MLA for the neighboring Canning (East), is also the organizational leader of the Trinamool Congress in Bhangar. He was previously affiliated with the CPI(M) and was known as a close associate of the influential Abdur Razzak Molla, a former Minister for Land and Land Reforms during the previous Left Front administration. Molla later transitioned to the Trinamool Congress and secured his first MLA position from Canning (East) in the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections.
