AISF MLA in Bengal Assembly Denounces Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh

Kolkata, Nov 28 (NationPress) Naushad Siddique, the only representative of the All India Secular Front (AISF) in the West Bengal Assembly, expressed his condemnation on Thursday regarding the violence against minority Hindus in neighboring Bangladesh and the detention of International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, widely referred to as Chinmoy Prabhu.

“What is occurring in Bangladesh is entirely unacceptable. This represents an international concern. Such incidents cannot be tolerated. I sincerely hope for the restoration of peace in Bangladesh. We are receiving reports of attacks and abuses against minorities there, and this must cease immediately,” Siddique stated while addressing the media on the sidelines of the ongoing winter session of the Assembly.

Earlier that day, during her address in the Assembly, the Chief Minister voiced her distress over the situation in Bangladesh and affirmed her party and government’s full support for the Union government regarding this matter.

She also reiterated her stance against violence towards minorities, whether in India or elsewhere.

On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress General Secretary and party Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee echoed this sentiment, supporting the actions taken by the Centre concerning the Bangladesh situation.

The Assembly has been abuzz with discussions surrounding the situation in Bangladesh and the arrest of the ISKCON monk since the start of the current winter session, which will last until December 10.

On Tuesday, BJP lawmakers, led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, staged a protest inside the Assembly grounds, denouncing both the arrest of the ISKCON monk and the violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh.

Adhikari also called for an immediate halt to cross-border trade between India and Bangladesh, as well as a prohibition on all types of visas, including medical visas, for Bangladeshi citizens.
