Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 3 (NationPress) The National Commission for Women (NCW) has initiated a comprehensive three-day outreach and capacity-building program in Assam from February 3 to 6, as part of its prominent initiative “She Is a Changemaker”. This program aims to enhance grassroots women’s leadership and improve institutional coordination throughout the state, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
The outreach is spearheaded by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, reflecting the Commission’s dedication to the effective execution of women-focused welfare, safety, and protection measures, especially within local governance.
A significant aspect of this initiative includes extensive capacity-building sessions for Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) from both Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies. Over these three days, more than 3,000 women representatives from various districts in Assam will undergo training and awareness sessions on leadership development, legal knowledge, governance processes, and their impactful roles as change-makers at the grassroots.
On February 4, the NCW Chairperson will be in Nalbari to launch a Bike Rally as part of the outreach, followed by the commencement of a “She Is a Changemaker” workshop. This workshop will gather approximately 500 elected women representatives from Nalbari, Baksa, Barpeta, Bajali, and Bongaigaon districts.
The schedule for the day also includes review meetings with senior district administration and police officials to evaluate the on-ground implementation of laws and schemes aimed at women’s safety, empowerment, and justice delivery.
On February 5, the Chairperson is set to visit Darrang district to inspect the One Stop Centre for women in need of support. Additionally, she will inaugurate another capacity-building workshop for elected women representatives from Darrang, Tamulpur, Udalguri, and Biswanath districts. An interaction with nearly 1,000 women beneficiaries of flagship initiatives such as NAMO Drone Didi and Lakhpati Didi is also scheduled, concluding with high-level review meetings with senior administrative and police officials.
On February 6, in Guwahati, the NCW Chairperson will lead one of the largest “She Is a Changemaker” engagements in the region, involving around 1,500 elected women representatives from Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, Dispur, Golpara, and other districts. Through this three-day engagement, the National Commission for Women seeks to strengthen participatory governance, elevate women’s leadership at the grassroots level, and enhance inter-institutional collaboration to foster a safer, more inclusive environment for women throughout Assam.
