Assam Election Results 2026: NDA leads 99 seats as AGP chief Bora predicts big win
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora on Monday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the next government in Assam, as early counting trends showed the alliance leading in 99 Assembly seats. Bora attributed the strong showing to voters backing the NDA's development agenda, calling the public response "enormously good" for alliance candidates across the state.
Early Counting Trends
With vote counting underway across Assam under tight security, the BJP-led NDA was ahead in 99 Assembly seats in the early rounds, while the Congress-led opposition alliance was leading in 24 constituencies. Bora said the scale of the emerging mandate points towards a significant victory for the ruling alliance, adding that the trends are fully in line with the NDA's pre-poll expectations.
What AGP Chief Atul Bora Said
Speaking to reporters amid the ongoing count, Bora said voters have "reposed their faith in continuity," reflecting public support for sustained development and governance under the ruling alliance. He emphasised that citizens are prioritising progress and stability in their electoral choices. Taking a swipe at the opposition, Bora said Congress has been rejected by the electorate as it "failed to deliver development when it was in power."
