New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) A team from the NDRF arrived at the location of the tragic incident in Greater Noida’s Sector 150 on Tuesday. This development followed the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to remove the Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer and initiate a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry into the death of a 27-year-old software engineer. The young man lost his life when his car fell into a water-filled pit obscured by dense fog, caused by a broken boundary wall and the absence of barricades, lights, or reflectors to mark the hazardous area, which should have prevented such accidents.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the SIT to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident and to provide a comprehensive report within five days.

The unfortunate event transpired late at night amid heavy fog and poor visibility near the Sector-150 turn in the Knowledge Park area.

The victim, identified as Yuvraj Mehta, was driving when his vehicle reportedly went through a broken boundary wall and plunged into an unprotected, water-filled construction pit, approximately 70 feet deep.

Family members claim that the pit was left unmarked and lacked appropriate safety measures, indicating gross negligence on the part of the Noida Authority.

Yuvraj’s father, Rajkumar Mehta, has asserted that ongoing safety violations in the area were overlooked, despite it being part of the National Capital Region.

Local police stated that the post-mortem examination revealed water in the victim’s lungs, with cardiac arrest cited as the cause of death. His body was retrieved following a lengthy search operation.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticized the administration’s approach to public safety and rescue preparedness.

Tiwari remarked on the committee tasked with investigating the engineer's death, stating, “This should not be labeled merely as an accident or mishap. What transpired with the software engineer in Noida was essentially a murder. The lack of barricading resulted in the vehicle entering a perilous pit that was left open. Noida, as part of the NCR and the nation’s capital, should not allow such negligence.”

“Is this what we define as ‘new India’ where a man pleads for help, and bystanders do nothing as there are no rescue resources available? A helpless individual lost his life while others merely observed. The committee must ensure that measures are implemented to prevent future incidents and outline proper rescue protocols.”

This heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread sorrow and outrage, leading to a renewed examination of construction safety regulations throughout Noida and Greater Noida, with increased calls for accountability and stricter enforcement to avert future tragedies.
