Mumbai, June 14 (NationPress) Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan stated on Saturday that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to position India as a leading global study destination, providing high-quality education at a reasonable cost.

He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, India is being transformed into a global knowledge center by attracting top international universities to set up campuses in the country, while also empowering local higher education institutions to expand their reach internationally.

This address took place during an event titled ‘Mumbai Rising: Creating an International Education City’, where Letters of Intent (LoIs) were awarded to five prestigious universities from the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States of America, and Italy.

The Minister noted that the establishment of branch campuses for the University of York, University of Aberdeen, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Instituto Europeo Di Design (IED) from Italy signifies a growing trust in India’s educational framework and marks a significant achievement as we celebrate five transformative years of the NEP 2020.

The distribution of the LOIs occurred in the presence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil, Principal Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Aseem Gupta, and Secretary, Department of Higher Education and Chairman, UGC, Dr. Vineet Joshi.

Chief Minister Fadnavis remarked that the prompt issuance of LoIs showcases the government’s dedication and efficiency.

He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the NEP 2020, which allows foreign universities to contribute to the Indian educational landscape.

He highlighted that these five universities will significantly enhance the educational value of the State and that the NEP 2020 has genuinely facilitated the entry of top global institutions into India.

Moreover, he pointed out that talented Indian students who previously faced challenges in accessing and affording overseas education can now pursue their studies within the country at lower costs.
