Chennai, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Indian Railways is set to introduce three new Amrit Bharat train services linking Tamil Nadu and West Bengal today, enhancing affordable long-distance rail connectivity across southern and eastern India.
These Amrit Bharat trains serve as a non-air-conditioned alternative to premium options like the Vande Bharat Express, focusing on passenger comfort at economical prices for a diverse range of travelers.
With this addition, Tamil Nadu will now benefit from three more Amrit Bharat services.
The inaugural Amrit Bharat train, which operates from Erode in Tamil Nadu to Jogbani in Bihar, previously marked the entry of this service type in the area.
The Railway Board has sanctioned three additional weekly routes connecting prominent locations in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
According to an announcement from Southern Railway, the new services will run on the Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli, Tambaram–Chandrakachi, and Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri lines.
A ceremonial launch of these trains will take place at Rangapani railway station in West Bengal.
The Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20604) is scheduled to leave Rangapani at 1:45 pm today, set to reach Nagercoil by 7:15 p.m. on January 19.
Within Tamil Nadu, it will make stops at Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Udumalaipettai, Palani, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti, and Tirunelveli.
The Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20610) will also depart from Jalpaiguri at 1:45 p.m. today, with an expected arrival in Tiruchirappalli at 2:15 p.m. on January 19.
This train will stop at Egmore, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, and Thanjavur along its route.
Additionally, the Tambaram–Chandrakachi Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 16107) is set to launch its services on Sunday.
It will leave Chandrakachi at 2:45 p.m. and is expected to arrive in Tambaram at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Railway officials noted that comprehensive information about the regular operational schedules for these three Amrit Bharat trains will be provided separately.
