Kochi, Jan 28 (NationPress) Despite being released on bail for a previous sexual harassment allegation, renowned Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has now been implicated in a new case initiated by the Kochi police, following a complaint from the same actress.

Currently residing in the United States, Sasidharan stands accused of harassing the actress via social media platforms.

The police have commenced procedures to extradite Sasidharan from the US, having reached out to the Indian Embassy there as their initial action.

It’s worth noting that Sasidharan is out on bail following his arrest in 2022 at a temple in the state capital, stemming from the actress's allegations of stalking and threats against her.

At that time, Sasidharan, along with his family members, was visiting a temple near his hometown of Parassala when officers in plain clothes attempted to apprehend him. He subsequently went live on Facebook, claiming that his life was at risk due to a potential kidnapping attempt. He expressed his distrust in the state’s system and mentioned that he is currently staying at his sister’s residence in Tamil Nadu, which borders Parassala.

Following the previous incident, Sasidharan was granted bail. The latest allegations arose from the same actress, who reported continued harassment through social media.

The 47-year-old Sasidharan embarked on his filmmaking journey in 2000, releasing his first short film through crowdfunding the following year. In 2014, he produced his debut feature film, 'Oraalppokkam', which received accolades, including the award for best Malayalam film at the International Film Festival of Kerala. Additionally, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director that same year. His 2020 film 'Kayyattam', featuring Manju Warrier, was notably shot on an iPhone in the Himalayas and garnered critical acclaim.
