Guwahati, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached a remarkable milestone in its continuous pursuit of enhancing safety, security, and operational efficiency through technological advancements, as stated by railway officials on Friday.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma announced that an IP-based Video Surveillance System (VSS) has been successfully implemented on the Tower Wagon at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Depot in West Bengal, part of Bihar’s Katihar Division of NFR.
This system employs cutting-edge IP cameras to deliver high-definition video across both wired and wireless networks, facilitating centralized and real-time monitoring.
This initiative greatly enhances operational safety, security, and the effective oversight of Tower Wagon activities at the depot.
According to officials, the newly introduced VSS significantly boosts operational safety and security by allowing continuous, real-time monitoring of essential Tower Wagon operations at NJP Depot, especially during maintenance and OHE tasks.
The system aids in identifying potential risks, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, and utilizing recorded footage for post-event evaluations, training, and ongoing enhancements.
With its scalable and easily maintainable IP-based technology, this initiative fortifies supervision, protects assets, and optimizes workforce management, showcasing NFR’s proactive strategy for safer, more efficient, and reliable railway operations, Sharma explained.
These developments illustrate the Northeast Frontier Railway’s dedication to ongoing technological advancements, improved safety standards, and effective project execution, contributing to dependable, secure, and sustainable rail services throughout the region.
Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the NFR delivered an exemplary, community-focused performance in December 2025, significantly bolstering passenger safety, security enforcement, and humanitarian aid across the zone.
CPRO Sharma highlighted that through vigilant monitoring, prompt action, and coordinated efforts, RPF reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and compassionate rail travel.
During December 2025, RPF achieved significant success in safeguarding passenger possessions by apprehending 17 individuals involved in theft cases and recovering 17 stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 2.22 lakh, which were swiftly returned to the concerned GRP (Government Railway Police).
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), based in Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states and extends into seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of northern Bihar.
