Guwahati, April 3 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has showcased a strong and unwavering commitment to passenger safety, security, and public service through the remarkable achievements of its Railway Protection Force (RPF) during the financial year 2025–26, officials confirmed on Friday.

NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma noted that through enhanced surveillance, rapid response systems, and a proactive enforcement strategy, the RPF has significantly bolstered security across railway properties, ensuring a safer and more secure travel experience for passengers throughout its operational area.

In the year 2025–26, the RPF conducted targeted operations against theft, ticket touting, and other unauthorized activities, resulting in numerous detections, arrests, and the confiscation of illegal tickets. The force also took decisive action against incidents of stone pelting and engaged in extensive removal of encroachments to protect railway assets, reflecting a rigorous zero-tolerance stance toward threats to safety and operational integrity.

In addition to enforcement actions, the RPF continued its humanitarian efforts by rescuing trafficking victims and providing aid to individuals in distress, including women and children. Significant recoveries of contraband and illegal drugs further emphasize its vigilance, reaffirming its dedication to passenger safety, security, and the overall integrity of railway operations.

As part of its initiatives to incorporate technology for improved passenger security, the RPF has made remarkable strides in recovering stolen mobile phones via the CEIR portal. In the financial year 2025–26, 2,355 mobile phones were blocked, 1,265 devices were successfully traced, and 291 phones were returned to their rightful owners, indicating the effective use of digital tools by the RPF in addressing passenger concerns and ensuring the prompt recovery of lost or stolen property, thereby enhancing public confidence in railway security systems.

Over the course of the year, the RPF registered 219 cases related to the theft of passenger belongings, leading to the apprehension of 285 individuals. In its ongoing efforts to combat unauthorized activities, 120 cases against touts were uncovered, resulting in 128 arrests. The operations led to the seizure of 757 tickets, valued at over Rs 23 lakh.

The force also responded to public safety issues by acting on 154 reported instances of stone pelting, which resulted in the arrest of 116 individuals. Efforts to safeguard railway property and prevent illegal occupations saw a notable increase, with 699 encroachments removed in 2025–26, compared to 437 in the prior financial year.

In its humanitarian efforts, the RPF successfully rescued 89 individuals from trafficking, marking a significant increase from just 10 in 2024–25. Additionally, 1,125 individuals, including boys, girls, and women in distress (excluding trafficking cases), were aided during the year, up from 952 in the previous year.

Furthermore, the RPF achieved substantial recoveries during this period, seizing contraband valued at Rs 1.29 crore and narcotics worth Rs 55.29 crore, illustrating its ongoing vigilance against illegal activities.
