Northeast Frontier Railway Launches Anti-Encroachment Campaign in Assam and West Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which operates across ten states in the Northeastern and Eastern regions of India, has executed coordinated anti-encroachment operations in both Assam and West Bengal, as part of its initiative to ensure safety and protect railway properties, officials confirmed on Friday.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma emphasized the organization’s dedication to safeguarding railway infrastructure and facilitating safe train operations. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NFR undertook extensive anti-encroachment initiatives at various sites within the two states.
These efforts were conducted in close collaboration with the Engineering Department, during a two-day campaign in February 2026.
This initiative is part of NFR’s ongoing commitment to protect railway assets, improve operational efficiency, and enhance infrastructure security, as stated by the CPRO.
In West Bengal, the drives focused on the area between Nagrakata railway station and Chalsa railway station in the Jalpaiguri district, including the yard area of Dalgaon railway station in Alipurduar district.
In Assam, similar eviction actions were taken near Mariani railway station in the Jorhat district and along the railway segment between Guwahati railway station and Kamakhya railway station in Kamrup (Metro) district, Sharma noted.
During the campaign, a total of 37 unauthorized structures were dismantled, and six cement pillars that had been erected on railway land were removed.
One of the key highlights of this operation was the extensive eviction conducted between Guwahati and Kamakhya railway stations, where a significant number of 35 unauthorized structures were demolished.
This substantial clearance represents one of the most extensive anti-encroachment drives in this section and is anticipated to greatly enhance track visibility, bolster safety standards, and deter future encroachments along this vital railway corridor.
Sharma reiterated that the Northeast Frontier Railway is resolute in its mission to protect railway assets while ensuring a safe, secure, and unobstructed environment for passengers and train operations.
Moreover, the collaborative efforts of the RPF and the Engineering Department are instrumental in reducing anti-social activities along railway tracks, he added.
NFR has appealed to the community to avoid unauthorized occupation of railway land and to cooperate fully in maintaining railway safety and security.
Operating within the Northeastern states, the NFR also extends its services to seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar.
