Guwahati, Jan 29 (NationPress) In a remarkable initiative aimed at enhancing passenger experience, Indian Railways has approved 202 new train stoppages at 82 stations spanning Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar under the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), as reported on Wednesday by officials.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated that these additional 202 halts are being introduced on an experimental basis to boost rail connectivity, enhance accessibility for travelers from smaller and developing regions, and respond to longstanding public requests.
These new stoppages will be implemented shortly and will be monitored closely for passenger feedback and operational efficiency, he added.
Sharma highlighted that numerous significant and premium trains are part of this initiative. The stoppages include the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express at Rangiya, the Anand Vihar-Agartala-Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express at New Haflong and New Coochbehar, the Kolkata-Sairang-Kolkata Express at Katakhal, and the Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express at Katlicherra, which will significantly enhance the railway travel schedule in North Bengal, Bihar, and Assam.
Furthermore, the New Delhi-Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express will now stop at stations like Dhemaji, Sibsagar Town, and Vishwanath Chariali, providing better access to Rajdhani services for passengers in Upper Assam. Additionally, several key mail and express trains, such as the Guwahati-Howrah-Guwahati, Dibrugarh-Howrah-Dibrugarh, Kamakhya-Puri-Kamakhya, Silchar-Guwahati-Silchar, and Alipurduar–Delhi-Alipurduar Express services, have also been included in this extended stoppage plan.
Important stations selected for these experimental halts include Rangiya, Nalbari, Barpeta Road, Goalpara Town, Basugaon, Dangtal, Kokrajhar, New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, Sibsagar Town, Dhemaji, Lanka, Hojai, Vishwanath Chariali, Aluabari Road, Bagdogra, Dalkhola, Samsi, Harischandrapur, Raninagar Jalpaiguri, New Mal Junction, and Sivok.
These new stoppages are anticipated to aid passengers from semi-urban and rural areas by minimizing travel time to key junctions and providing enhanced interchange options with long-distance and premium trains. The implementation of these stoppages will occur in stages over the following weeks.
