NFR revises timings of 80+ trains for better punctuality from April 30
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has revised the schedules of more than 80 train services across its network with effect from 30 April 2026, in a bid to improve punctuality, streamline operations, and enhance passenger convenience. NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma confirmed the development on Sunday, noting that the changes cover mail, express, passenger, Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DMU), and long-distance services operating across Assam, other Northeastern states, and adjoining regions.
Key Trains Affected
Among the prominent services for which timings have been revised are the Naharlagun–Guwahati Shatabdi Express, the Anand Vihar–Agartala Tejas Rajdhani Express, the Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, the Silchar–New Tinsukia Express, the Guwahati–Dibrugarh Express, and the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Intercity Express. The revised timings span both short-distance and long-distance routes, reflecting the breadth of the operational overhaul.
Stations Covered Under the Revision
The schedule changes have been implemented at several key stations, including Guwahati, Kamakhya, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur, Dibrugarh, New Tinsukia, Rangiya, Silchar, and Agartala. Several passenger and DMU services in Assam and Tripura have also been rescheduled to ensure better connectivity and smoother train movement across different sections of the zone.
Expected Operational Benefits
According to Sharma, the revised schedules are expected to reduce operational delays, improve sectional running time management, and ensure better punctuality for passengers on both short and long-distance services. The changes are also designed to maintain improved connectivity at major junctions and terminals while enhancing the overall efficiency of train operations across the NFR zone. This is part of NFR's ongoing efforts to systematically address long-standing punctuality concerns across the region's rail network.
How Passengers Can Check Updated Timings
Passengers have been advised to verify revised train timings before commencing their journey through the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) enquiry platforms, or the nearest railway stations. The Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar. Passengers travelling on affected routes are encouraged to reconfirm their departure and arrival times ahead of their journey.
