Guwahati, March 5 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), operating across the northeastern states and in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar, has successfully finalized a series of significant infrastructure improvements designed to bolster safety and facilitate smooth train operations in key segments of its network.
NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma noted that these initiatives, completed in February, highlight NFR’s ongoing commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure and delivering safer, faster, and more dependable services for both passengers and freight transport.
A notable accomplishment in February was the successful establishment of a Road Under Bridge (RUB) between Panisagar and Pencharthal stations on the Baraigram–Agartala section.
This new RUB has effectively removed unauthorized track crossings at the site, significantly improving safety for train operations and the surrounding community, the CPRO stated.
The NFR also completed the replacement of old girders at a major bridge situated between Chaparmukh and Kampur stations in Assam.
With the successful installation of all four girders, the previous speed limit of 75 kmph will now be lifted, allowing trains to travel at increased speeds while ensuring safer passage across the bridge, Sharma added.
In the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Assam, the NFR carried out essential flood protection measures at two vulnerable sites that experienced severe muck flow and water-logging from upstream areas during the last monsoon season, he mentioned.
The NFR has constructed two sturdy RCC Box culverts across the tracks, along with side drainage channels and necessary slope protection measures.
These enhancements will guarantee effective drainage and safeguard the tracks during heavy rainfall, ensuring uninterrupted train services through this crucial hilly area, the official explained.
The CPRO emphasized that the Northeast Frontier Railway is fully dedicated to the continuous improvement of infrastructure, enhancing safety, and ensuring dependable train operations throughout its network.
These recently completed projects are part of a broader initiative to modernize railway assets and offer passengers and freight customers safe, efficient, and seamless transportation services, he concluded.
