Northeast Frontier Railway Enhances Safety Equipment for Safer Train Travel: Official

Guwahati, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which operates within the northeastern states along with seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in north Bihar, is dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of train journeys, an official reported on Friday.
NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, mentioned that the railway system under NFR is implementing technologically advanced strategies to upgrade and preserve its infrastructure.
In November, NFR installed Thick Web Switch Point machines with clamp-type locking mechanisms at 31 stations throughout the zone, significantly boosting safety features.
To further improve efficiency and safety, various upgrades and replacements of the existing signalling systems have been conducted across several sections, as noted by the CPRO.
Sharma added that a sliding boom has been introduced at four level crossing gates in Katihar, one in Alipurduar, and two in the Lumding division during November.
Additionally, electric lifting barriers have been replaced at two level crossing gates in Katihar and two in the Tinsukia division to bolster safety at these crossings.
New signalling cables have also been laid at various stations in the Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, and Alipurduar divisions.
According to the CPRO, automatic fire detection and alarm systems have been established at Rahamatpur and Arariya court stations in the Katihar division as part of measures to safeguard railway property from damage.
System integrity testing has been conducted at 25 level crossing gates within NFR.
A total of 381 signalling batteries of diverse capacities have been replaced across all five divisions, enhancing the reliability of safety equipment.
Modern communication systems are now utilized to regulate train movements by providing visual information to both drivers and operators, as noted by the official.
Sharma emphasized that infrastructural improvements in the railway system facilitate safe train operations, and the reliability and maintenance of these systems directly influence operational capacity.
The NFR is committed to delivering a superior, punctual, and safer railway experience for all its passengers, he asserted.
