NFR to Reinstate Operations of Full Number of Passenger Trains Before Covid Era

Guwahati, Dec 28 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has resolved to operate all 60 pairs of passenger trains with their original numbers as they did before the Covid-19 pandemic, officials announced on Saturday.
A senior NFR official stated that following a directive from the Railway Board, all trains operated by NFR (ICF/DEMU/LHB) will utilize their regular numbers rather than the current ‘0’ numbering system.
All 60 pairs of passenger trains will resume operations at their previous frequency with their former train numbers starting from January 2025, as stated by the official.
Among the 60 pairs of trains, four pairs will operate from the Tinsukia Division, 19 pairs from the Lumding Division, 10 pairs from the Rangiya Division, six pairs from the Alipurduar Division (West Bengal), and 21 pairs will run from the Katihar Division (Bihar).
The complete schedule of stoppages and timings for all 60 pairs of trains is accessible on the IRCTC website and the NFR’s social media channels.
The official noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21, the railway operated special trains at slightly increased fares, a system that continues to be in place.
The NFR serves the northeastern states in addition to seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in northern Bihar, maintaining over 6,400 km of tracks within its jurisdiction.
The official emphasized that the NFR is consistently striving to enhance the safety and security of train travel.
In November, the NFR implemented Thick Web Switch Point machines with clamp-type locking at 31 stations throughout the zone to bolster safety features.
To further improve efficiency and safety, the NFR has undertaken numerous upgrades and replacements to its existing signalling system across several sections within the zone, the official noted.
