Northeast Frontier Railway Unveils Cutting-Edge Technology for Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Maintenance
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 7 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a remarkable milestone by implementing a range of sophisticated, in-house engineered technological solutions aimed at improving the maintenance and safety of the state-of-the-art Vande Bharat Sleeper trains at the Kamakhya Coaching Depot, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
According to NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, these systems, developed using state-of-the-art technology and adhering to advanced global standards, encompass a smart Air Spring Monitoring System, a Portable Vibration Monitoring System for immediate diagnostics, and an indigenously designed External Pit Power Supply and Pre-cooling System.
It is noteworthy that India’s inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has been operational between Kamakhya and Howrah since January of this year, marking the beginning of a new chapter in world-class and comfortable rail travel, Sharma highlighted.
He further stated that this initiative is part of NFR’s commitment to employing cost-effective technologies for enhanced maintenance systems.
Sharma emphasized that NFR’s growing capabilities in embracing innovative and sustainable practices represent a crucial step toward modernizing the maintenance of high-speed and premium train services.
Collectively, these cutting-edge systems boost safety, enhance maintenance efficiency, and ensure the reliable, high-performance operation of Vande Bharat sleeper coaches.
The Chief Public Relations Officer noted that a significant technological leap has been made with the introduction of the Air Spring Monitoring System, allowing for intelligent, condition-based monitoring of coaches.
This system guarantees continuous tracking of essential parameters, enables early detection of anomalies, and ensures accurate validation through advanced acoustic imaging techniques.
This predictive, data-driven methodology enhances operational reliability, strengthens safety protocols, and guarantees a smooth, comfortable travel experience for passengers.
In another groundbreaking initiative, NFR has also launched, for the first time, a Portable Vibration Monitoring System for real-time condition monitoring of rolling stock.
Currently in use for Vande Bharat sleeper rakes at the Kamakhya depot, this system allows for the early identification of potential issues and facilitates timely corrective measures, thereby minimizing failures and ensuring a seamless journey, as noted by Sharma.
Additionally, an External Pit Power Supply and Pre-cooling System has been innovatively designed and implemented, setting new standards in safe and efficient maintenance practices.
This system enables safe maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper coaches during overhead equipment shutdowns by supplying power to critical onboard systems such as HVAC, lighting, and diagnostics.
It also mitigates the risk of electrocution for maintenance personnel and significantly reduces rake turnaround times, ensuring enhanced availability of high-quality, well-maintained coaches for passengers.
These initiatives reaffirm Northeast Frontier Railway’s dedication to adopting cutting-edge technology, enhancing safety measures, and delivering a superior and comfortable travel experience to passengers, aligning with advanced global benchmarks.
