As per the report, a devastating incident transpired at an oxygen refilling facility in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area of Jaipur, where several oxygen cylinders detonated during the refilling process.
This explosion resulted in the loss of three lives, including the factory manager and workers, and inflicted severe damage to the nearby environment.
The Tribunal highlighted the significant environmental and safety concerns raised by this incident, stating that it poses critical questions regarding environmental protection and the enforcement of legal provisions under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010.
The Tribunal referenced a Supreme Court ruling in Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai vs. Ankita Sinha & Ors., reinforcing its capacity to take suo motu cognisance on such issues.
As a result, notices have been dispatched to the involved parties, mandating them to respond within six weeks.
The Tribunal has included the following as party respondents: State of Rajasthan through the District Magistrate, Rajasthan Pollution Control Board, the authorized representative of the implicated oxygen plant, and Anand Kumar, the Principal Secretary for Environment in Rajasthan.
Furthermore, a Joint Committee has been formed, comprising representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Rajasthan Pollution Control Board.
This Committee has been tasked with conducting a site inspection and delivering a comprehensive factual and action report within six weeks.
The Rajasthan Pollution Control Board will act as the nodal agency for coordination and logistical support.
Further proceedings on the matter are scheduled for July 7, 2026.
