New Delhi, April 9 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a pivotal milestone in the investigation of the grenade attack in Chandigarh's Sector 10 with the apprehension of Abhijot Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab.

This arrest marks a significant advancement in the ongoing inquiry regarding the assault, which was executed by Harwinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Rinda, based in Pakistan, and Harpreet Singh, referred to as Happy Passia, residing in the United States. Both individuals are recognized terrorists affiliated with the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) organization.

In the previous month, the NIA submitted charges against four suspects linked to the attack, identifying Rinda and Happy as fugitives, while two others have already been taken into custody.

With Abhijot Singh’s arrest, the total number of accused in this case now stands at six.

Abhijot, who was already incarcerated for his role in a different grenade attack targeting a police station, has been recognized as a crucial figure in the conspiracy.

Investigations revealed that he maintained direct communication with Happy and played a significant role in the planning and execution of the grenade attack.

NIA officials reported that Abhijot conducted thorough reconnaissance of the target area in Sector 10 on several occasions in July and August 2024.

The agency also uncovered that Abhijot facilitated a stolen motorcycle with a counterfeit license plate, which was intended for use in the grenade assault.

Happy provided Abhijot and another accomplice, Rohan Masih, with firearms, directing them to execute a shooting attack at the Sector 10 residence. The pair visited the site on two occasions in August but were unsuccessful in executing the attack.

Following this recent arrest, the NIA launched a search operation in Karnal, Haryana, this morning to uncover more details regarding the conspiracy and to identify other potential suspects involved in the plot.
