Chandigarh, Oct 4 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against a significant suspect in the grenade attack case that occurred in Chandigarh Sector 10, which was orchestrated by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists operating from abroad, officials disclosed on Saturday.

Abhijot Singh, also known as Babba or Gopi, a resident of Punjab who was apprehended in April due to his role in the attack, has been included in the supplementary chargesheet submitted to the Special NIA Court in Chandigarh on Friday.

Officials reported that this attack, aimed at a retired Punjab Police officer, was part of a broader scheme designed to instill fear within the community.

The entire plot was masterminded by Harwinder Singh, also known as Rinda, a BKI terrorist based in Pakistan, in partnership with Happy Passia, a gangster residing in the US, according to officials.

NIA investigations revealed that Passia was pivotal in recruiting operatives, providing financial support, and supplying weapons and explosives to accomplices in India.

“Both Rinda and Passia were named as absconders in the chargesheet, alongside two detained suspects, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, in March of last year. The NIA identified Abhijot Singh as a co-conspirator during the investigation, which led to his arrest,” authorities stated.

The investigations further uncovered that Abhijot traveled to Armenia in December 2023, where he connected with Shamsher Shera, a member of Passia's terror network. Shera recruited Abhijot into Passia's gang.

Upon his return to India in mid-2024, Abhijot conducted reconnaissance on the target in July and, together with Rohan, attempted to assassinate the retired officer in August 2024. He had received funding from BKI handlers located overseas for this operation.

In September 2024, Rohan and Vishal executed the grenade attack.

The NIA is persistently working to locate other suspects and accomplices involved in supplying logistical support and terror-related materials to the operatives involved in this conspiracy,” officials added.

Point of View

It is essential to highlight that the NIA's chargesheet against Abhijot Singh points to a troubling trend of international terror networks attempting to infiltrate India. This case underscores the need for vigilance and cooperation in combating threats to national security.
