New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted extensive searches at numerous locations across five states and one union territory as part of an investigation into a terror conspiracy associated with ISIS and other extremist groups, the agency reported on Tuesday.
A total of 21 locations were thoroughly searched on Monday in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The NIA took over the investigation from the Kayar police in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, in June 2023, and confiscated various digital devices, including mobile phones, along with significant documentary evidence during the operations.
This investigation was sparked by the arrest of an individual named Akhlathur, also known as Mohammed Akhlque Mujahid, who reportedly conspired with others to carry out terrorist activities within India.
According to the agency, “The conspiracy aimed to gather personnel and material support to wage jihad against India by collaborating with designated terrorist organizations.”
The accused was reportedly in communication with these extremist groups via social media.
Additionally, he was found to have connections with multiple entities based in Pakistan and Syria.
The NIA is currently pursuing the investigation under case number RC-01/2025/NIA/CHE.
The agency's raids are part of a larger ongoing investigation into a significant terror conspiracy.
Official sources indicate that the coordinated operation commenced early Monday morning and spanned eight locations in Bihar, one each in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, two in Uttar Pradesh, and nine in Jammu and Kashmir.
The operations were conducted with the robust assistance of state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, ensuring effective execution on the ground.
The investigation focuses on a terror conspiracy involving the recruitment of youth, fundraising activities, and the establishment of sleeper cells to execute illegal activities throughout the nation.
During the searches, officials scrutinized several residential and business locations believed to be linked to individuals affiliated with radical groups.
As per official sources, investigators have reportedly seized electronic devices, digital records, incriminating documents, and communication tools, which will undergo thorough forensic and technical analysis.
In recent months, the NIA has escalated its operations, conducting numerous raids nationwide to dismantle terror modules and disrupt their logistical frameworks.
Some prominent terror cases, including those involving terror financing and the murder of innocent civilians, are currently under investigation by the NIA.
