NIA Conducts Searches in Handwara, Police Conducts Raids Across Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 30 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed searches on Saturday in Handwara, a town in Jammu and Kashmir, linked to a significant drug case, while police conducted raids in multiple locations across Srinagar city under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
NIA officials, supported by police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), proceeded with searches in Handwara as part of an investigation into a high-profile, multi-million-dollar drug racket.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated searches in various spots within the Batmaloo area and the HMT region of Srinagar, pertinent to a UAPA-related case.
A police announcement indicated that the searches were part of an ongoing investigation concerning individuals engaged in a criminal conspiracy aimed at creating false and harmful narratives by spreading fabricated information to incite public violence.
Authorities obtained search warrants from the appropriate court and executed searches at the residences of Obais Riyaz Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar from Bonpora Batmaloo, and Sahil Ahmad Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad from HMT, Zainakot.
The police statement noted that during these searches, electronic devices and incriminating materials were confiscated, adding that several other homes linked to suspects involved in seditious propaganda are under surveillance for potential future actions.
Authorities once again urged the public to exercise caution while using social media to avoid involvement in activities related to the sharing and dissemination of false propaganda aimed at creating an anti-national narrative as directed by adversaries. It's important to highlight that terrorist activities in J&K have surged following their inability to disrupt the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, which were conducted peacefully with significant public participation.
Those who oppose peace and stability across the border have reportedly instructed overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers to assist in spreading harmful propaganda to undermine peace in the Union Territory, authorities warned.
