NIA Executes Raids in Mizoram Linked to Illegal Arms and Ammunition Trafficking; Three Individuals Arrested

Aizawl, Dec 7 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained three individuals from Mizoram in a case regarding trans-border arms and ammunition trafficking, as confirmed by an official on Saturday. The arrests were executed after comprehensive searches at six different locations within Mizoram's districts.
The detained persons have been identified as Lalrinchhunga, Vanlaldailova, and Lalmuanpuia.
This trio, who were arrested on Friday, is linked to previously detained suspects and are believed to be actively involved in the network trafficking explosives, weapons, and ammunition, according to a statement from the NIA.
The searches targeted locations in Mammit, Serchip, and Aizawl districts, which included a gunhouse as indicated in the release.
During these searches, a variety of items were confiscated, including weapons, ammunition, explosives, weapon manufacturing equipment and tools, digital devices, and other incriminating materials as part of the NIA's ongoing investigation into the case.
The national investigative agency had initiated a case in Delhi on December 26, 2023, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, the Explosive Substances Act of 1908, and the Arms Act.
The NIA commenced its investigation based on intelligence suggesting that certain entities based in Mizoram were involved in illegal operations and were running a syndicate engaged in the trafficking of arms, ammunition, explosives, and more within the northeastern region of India.
Earlier in July and November this year, the agency filed charges against accused individuals Lalngaihawma and Solomona (alias Hminga) and Lalmithanga respectively in connection with this case.
The investigation continues as the NIA aims to uncover the conspiracy behind the trafficking of arms and explosives in Mizoram and neighboring northeastern states.
In July of the previous year, the NIA also arrested three individuals, including a Myanmar national, following extensive searches related to the seizure of explosives, arms, and ammunition in Mizoram.
The three suspects were detained after raids conducted at four locations in Mizoram, including two sites in Champhai district, which borders Myanmar, along with one site each in Aizawl and Lawngtlai districts.
The raids on July 25 targeted the residences of suspects connected to the smuggling and transportation of explosives and arms from Mizoram to Myanmar.
Numerous incriminating materials were seized during these raids.
On December 4, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police, recovered ₹1.24 crore in Indian currency and apprehended a Myanmar citizen named Lianbiaksang (26) in the Ngur area of Champhai district near the India-Myanmar border.
Authorities suspect that this Indian currency may have been intended for the purchase of arms, ammunition, or other contraband items.
