Patna, March 7 (NationPress) An intense dispute arose in the Bihar Legislative Council on Friday as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar confronted the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its leaders, Lalu Prasad Yadav and former CM Rabri Devi.

During the session, CM Nitish Kumar expressed his anger over a question regarding the education department, specifically addressing Rabri Devi.

The altercation began when RJD MLC Urmila Thakur raised concerns about the absence of a Girls' High School in her area, Garhara village. She pointed out that girls were unable to attend other schools located four to five km away in Barauni.

In response, CM Nitish Kumar stood up and vehemently criticized the RJD's past governance. 'The education system deteriorated under the RJD regime. I was the one who revitalized it,' he asserted.

'What did the RJD accomplish for women? Where were women educated in the past? They had minimal access to primary education,' he stated.

He further targeted Rabri Devi and Lalu Yadav: 'When her husband was incarcerated due to the fodder scam, he appointed her as CM, yet she did nothing for women's education. All the initiatives for women were undertaken by my administration.'

These comments ignited a heated exchange between the RJD and JD(U) members in the legislature.

Earlier, he had expressed frustration over protests from opposition leaders regarding the rise in crimes against women in the Bihar Assembly.

Opposition MLAs stormed the well of the House, chanting slogans concerning the alarming increase in crime, referencing the horrific murder of a 25-year-old woman in Nalanda, whose body was discovered with ten nails driven into her feet.

CM Nitish Kumar addressed this incident, stating, 'Whenever an incident occurs, we promptly instruct officials to take necessary action. Those causing disturbances will face repercussions.'

'I beseech opposition members to remain seated and allow the House to proceed,' he added.

Following CM Nitish Kumar's remarks, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav repeatedly requested the opposition MLAs to take their seats, but they persisted in their protests.

The CM's assertive demeanor indicates he is unwilling to tolerate opposition criticisms. The RJD's retaliatory comments signal an escalating political confrontation ahead of the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
