Rabri Devi Urges Nitish Kumar to Stay as Bihar's Chief Minister Amid Political Turmoil
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 7 (NationPress) In the midst of escalating political dynamics in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, accompanied by former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, made their way to Patna from New Delhi. While Lalu Prasad refrained from addressing the media's inquiries at the airport, Rabri Devi leveled significant accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and insisted that Nitish Kumar should remain the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Rabri Devi asserted that the BJP was scheming against Nitish Kumar to oust him from his Chief Ministerial role by pushing him to the Rajya Sabha. She claimed this maneuver was designed to facilitate the BJP's takeover of the Chief Minister's position in Bihar.
“Nitish Kumar must continue as the Chief Minister of Bihar,” Rabri Devi stated while engaging with reporters at the Patna airport.
The political discourse took a sharper turn following speculations that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar might submit his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections. This development has led to discussions about his potential resignation as Chief Minister and who might take over the leadership of the state.
Opposition factions have accused the BJP of orchestrating a broader political strategy to alter the leadership framework in Bihar. Senior leader of the Indian National Congress and former MLA Ajit Sharma also criticized Nitish Kumar’s interest in seeking a Rajya Sabha seat.
During a media interaction in Bhagalpur, Sharma remarked that during the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections, the public had been assured a government led by Nitish Kumar from 2025 to 2030. He argued that stepping down from the Chief Minister's position at this juncture would represent a betrayal of the people's trust.
Sharma further claimed that the BJP has a track record of undermining its allies and suggested that Nitish Kumar’s shift to the Rajya Sabha might not be entirely a choice of his own. He urged Nitish Kumar to remain active in Bihar's politics and consider joining the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
He proposed that if Nitish Kumar were to align with the opposition, it could pave the way for fresh elections and a new government under the INDIA Bloc. Additionally, he called upon the MLAs of Janata Dal (United) to join the Grand Alliance, cautioning that failure to do so would enable the BJP to erode their political legitimacy.
