Patna, March 18 (NationPress) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is under continuous scrutiny from the Opposition, took a proactive approach by calling in Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar and Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Monday to discuss the alarming increase in criminal activities, particularly the killings of police personnel in Araria and Munger.
The state government is reportedly contemplating stringent measures to counter this issue. However, specifics of their discussions remain undisclosed.
Earlier that day, RJD MLAs displayed placards and chanted slogans in the Bihar Assembly, criticizing the government's inability to uphold law and order.
This uproar prompted CM Nitish Kumar to exit the House almost immediately and retreat to his chamber.
Following this, he attended the Bihar Legislative Council where former CM Rabri Devi also challenged the government, questioning the rise in assaults on police officers and other criminal activities.
She highlighted several criminal occurrences, including 22 murders within just three days, alongside attacks on police personnel. This has escalated the political climate in Bihar.
The Opposition asserts that the government has lost complete control, while Nitish Kumar struggles to manage the repercussions.
In addition to Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav referred to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, alleging that 60,000 murders and over 25,000 rape and gang rape cases have been documented in Bihar in the last twenty years under Nitish Kumar's administration.
The Opposition has called for a discourse on law and order through an adjournment motion, which the Assembly speaker rejected.
Tejashwi claimed: “The government is protecting criminals and evading discussion because it lacks answers.”
The mounting pressure may compel the government to unveil stricter regulations in the near future. With the budget session currently taking place, the Opposition is likely to keep the focus on this issue, ensuring that law and order remains a pivotal political discourse in Bihar.
